Los inocentes gorditos (p3)

18 Feb

Gloria has started to feed us.

She’s cooked for us before. When we first arrived in Medellín we were met each morning by a toasty arepa with eggs and hogao. When we have visitors she usually puts together a really special, delicious meal for us to eat (and then stands over us, making sure we finish every bean).

There have even been times when the two of us would plan a meal with her, and when that day rolled around we would purchase the goods and she would fry it up and serve it to us (standing over us, making sure we finish every bean).

But now, she’s started cooking every time she comes to our house each week, sending Greg out to grab any last-minute items. This is dangerous ground! There is no refusing Gloria. We are going to continue to get so fat.

This past week she threw together a delicious plate of rice, fried fish and patacones (fried plantains). We topped everything off with a delicious bowl of fresh hogao, the sauce that goes with/on everything. And you can bet that we ate every grain of that rice.

She’s now promised us some kind of mushroom stuffed with meat? I think I heard that wrong. I’m afraid…but, strangely hungry.
